The MMOB Daily Quote - Philip Wylie

Philip Gordon Wylie (May 12, 1902 – October 25, 1971)

Today's
MMOB Daily Quote focuses on 20th Century American writer Philip Wylie. Interestingly, he is credited with helping foster the creation of Superman and his ilk with his 1930 novel Gladiator. While I'm sure he is notable for many other things as well, I found his piece on Momism in American Cold War Culture to be quite interesting, and timely, given that yesterday was Mothers Day.

Here are a few Philip Wylie quotes to get you started on this fine Tuesday:

"Material blessings, when they pay beyond the category of need, are weirdly fruitful of headache”

“God must hate common people, because he made them so common”

“If liberty has any meaning it means freedom to improve”

“One good teacher in a lifetime may sometimes change a delinquent into a solid citizen”

“Ignorance is not bliss - it is oblivion”

Cheers! - Jason
