The MMOB Daily Quote - James Herriot

Today our birthday boy and notable quotable is James Herriot

Here's a little background on Mr. Herriot (or should I say Mr. Wight) from Wikipedia
James Herriot is the pen name of James Alfred Wight, OBE, also known as Alf Wight (3 October 1916 – 23 February 1995), a British veterinary surgeon and writer. Wight is best known for his semi-autobiographical stories, often referred to collectively as All Creatures Great and Small, a title used in some editions and in film and television attractions.

The BBC series ran from 1978 to 1990. I remember watching the show with my family as I was growing up and enjoying it greatly. I'm sure it has helped to bolster my love of animals and was a large influence on my brother's decision to become a Veterinarian.

And now, some words of wisdom from Mr. James Herriot:

“Cats are connoisseurs of comfort”

“If having a soul means being able to feel love and loyalty and gratitude, then animals are better off than a lot of humans”

“I am never at my best in the early morning, especially a cold morning in the Yorkshire spring with a piercing March wind sweeping down from the fells, finding its way inside my clothing, nipping at my nose and ears.”

“I hope to make people realize how totally helpless animals are, how dependent on us, trusting as a child must that we will be kind and take care of their needs... [They] are an obligation put on us, a responsibility we have no right to neglect, nor to violate by cruelty.”

Cheers! - Jason

We love James Herriot. Have read many of the books and Eric and I watched the BBC series faithfully for many years. In fact we bought the DVD collection quite some time ago but haven't found time to start watching them. We've got to do that.
Thanks Jason!
