Yes, THAT Lawrence Welk!
So we all know today's birthday boy, but how many of us have admitted to watching his show when we were growing up? Sure, most of the time it was at grandma's house when we didn't have a choice, but he was actually kinda cool in a retro-sorta-way. Of course I'm talking about Lawrence Welk and his self-named show that ran for more than 30 years
Here's a little "dance music" on the man from Wikipedia:
Lawrence Welk (March 11, 1903 – May 17, 1992) was a musician, accordionist, bandleader, and television impresario, hosting The Lawrence Welk Show from 1951 to 1982. His style came to be known to his large number of radio, television, and live-performance fans as "champagne music." He is a 1961 inductee of North Dakota's Roughrider Award.
And now a few of his quotes from ThinkExist.com
“There are good days and there are bad days, and this is one of them.”
"Whenever you have a minute I'd like to see you right now."
“I just had an idea that went right over my head.”
"Boys, look like you're having fun, but don't have any. (To his band just before going on the air)"
"If they can't hum it after we play it, it's not for us."
Cheers! - Jason
